HOW CAN A TEAM ADD PLAYERS AS A WRITE IN FOR OUR LOCAL SUMMER LEAGUE AND OUR LOCAL TOURNAMENTS AFTER STATE? Per USSSA rule a team can only add and drop 3 players max once they are frozen. This causes a problem for teams wanting to play more baseball after state and before 8/1. What we do to allow teams to play but not create problems is the following scenarios. 1. If your roster is frozen and you have adds still available then of course you can add players per USSSA rule. They must not be on another frozen roster. If they are on a team with a frozen roster that is still playing then you CAN NOT ADD THEM. If they’re on a frozen roster but the team is done they need to have their coach drop them so you can add them. Exception: If a team is no longer playing but they can’t drop the player because they have also already used all their allowed drops then we will allow them to be written in. 2. If your roster is frozen and you’ve already used all of your 3 adds then we will allow you to write them in. Please pay attention to this: When using write-ins we will only allow you to add enough for a full roster plus 1 sub. Of course it’s the same situation as above in regards to the write-in player and they can’t be on another frozen roster. Again if a team is frozen and still playing their players cannot play on any other team. Exception: If a team is no longer playing but they can’t drop the player because they have also already used all their allowed drops then we will allow them to be written in. Also any player that’s on the official roster that teams turned in before their 1st league can be used by other teams in league play but must bat last and not pitch. You can only borrow a player from another team for a league game to bring you up to a full roster. 3. All rosters are required to be turned in before any team is allowed to take the field in any tournament or league game. Believe me we won’t waiver from this and teams will forfeit games if roster isn’t complete and signed by all parents players and manager. Rosters should only have first and last names that are on the Birth Certificates. If this isn't the case please let me know so we can help you correct. If you haven’t turned in your official roster for summer league then I’ll have to go with what is on USSSA until you do so which could be a problem if a player is on the field that’s not online. We can’t let players play without being on the roster. 4. Some teams decide it’s better to register a new team and that’s fine but remember you have to follow these rules and your insurance won’t work as it’s specific to your other team’s reg number. You’ll need to purchase a new policy. A team can have a player that is frozen to another roster in a different age group. Per USSSA rule a player can be on a frozen roster in multiple age groups. Ex: A kid that is frozen to a 12U team can play up with a 13U team or if young enough an 11U team and be frozen on all of the rosters. A kid cannot play for more than 1 team in a tournament. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CALL ME AT 806-670-3164 OR EMAIL WTYBA@HOTMAIL.COM. Also please see local rules and map links at wtyba.com We will enforce these rules at all times so know the rules. We want kids to be able to play baseball in the summer and realize that it’s tough sometimes with frozen roster issues. If everyone will follow these guidelines we will be able to continue to allow this flexibility. Again I encourage you to get with me if you aren’t sure on something. Remember all rosters that are turned in are official and will be what is used for the summer league and any events after state. The roster must be signed and turned in. I recommend you make a copy so you’re not trying to get signatures for every event. This is our local rule only and while others allowed write-ins many don’t. Always know the local rules.
